Penang, 8th May 2005 ¨C X Net Cyber Caf¨¦, a New Era Games Club member was the battleground for the Dawn of War Penang State Preliminary tournament. A total of 8 teams of two players gathered that early Sunday morning, after many nights of practice to finally to see which could pledge their undying loyalty to the Emperor.
Teams came from all over Penang, bearing creative names such Hands of the Heretic, Imperial Guard Alliance, Super Space Marines and The Khorne Worshippers. |

The tournament started at 11am, with all 8 teams squaring off with one another. Most teams started off cautiously, securing strategic locations located within the vicinity of their base and expanded later on when they all had a larger force. Some interesting strategies were seen, some employed rush-like tactics to knock off their opponents early in the game!
After the preliminaries, the top four that remained were: Hands of the Heretic, XNET-01, VP-01 and HAN. The four teams were randomly placed to face off each other. |

Blood was drawn, brothers lost and false hopes were shattered as the winner of the semi finals emerged, team XNET-01 and team HAN where they subsequently went to fight on for the championship and 1st runner-up. In the end, it was XNET-01 that emerged out of the ashes of battle, as THE champion for the Penang DoW State Preliminaries
The losers, fought between VP-01 and Hands of the Herectic for the place second runner up which offered a cash prize of RM 100. VP-01, with the support of their cyber caf¨¦ sponsor Pusat Komputer VP gave them plenty of opportunity to train enough, ensuring their victory over their opponent.
All the other heretics and marines who failed did not go home empty handed; a goodie bag each with a limited premium from New Era was presented for their heroic and bold efforts.
The champions, XNET-01 will represent Penang and the Northern region in the Dawn of War Official National Tournament to be held in Low Yat Plaza concourse, this June 10 th to 12 th.They will be competing from the semi finals along with state champions from Melaka and Sabah against the top 4 teams from the KL preliminaries on Sunday the 12th. |
